A new way of gifting from SHIRO that brings joy to the Giver and Receiver, and also benefits the Envoroment
SHIRO will replace previously used traditional Gift BOX type by the "Gift Paper Bag". As a result, even the wrapping becomes a gift, and instead of being thrown away after its normal purpose, it can now be used again. By this change we addressed the problem of excessive packaging materials and were able to reduce the amount of disposable cushioning material by adding rubber bands to secure the products in place inside the bag.

Gifts are generally packed with cushioning material to prevent scratches, placed in a special Box or Bag, and wrapped with a ribbon. Most of this materials are usualy disposed off after gifts are opened. In the past, SHIRO has chosen to produce products without their outer boxes to reduce the paper that will eventually be discarded in Japan.For a long time, we felt the same about the way of gift wrapping, which uses a lot of resources too.
Of course, wrapping is necessary to protect the products. Also, when choosing gift wrapping, you should think about the person you are giving it to, just as you would when choosing a gift. If you think about it, whether it matches the person's character , whether it's a design they like, etc., the gift wrapping has just as much of the recipient's feelings as the gift itself. That's why we would like to propose a new way of presenting a gift, with a "Gift Paper Bag" that can be used again as a bag even after it has completed its original purpose.

When a customer purchases a “Gift Paper Bag”, the disposable cushioning material to protect the product is no longer necessary. Therefore the product will be directly placed in the bag and delivered or shipped as is. *1
As a new form of gift, we would like to propose that the “Gift Paper Bag” itself can be used as a gift, and available indivisually in SHIRO Monmouth Street Store. In order not to waste existing resources, the conventional “Gift Box” also will be available as a wrapping method for as long as stock lasts.

Future for the Gift Wrapping
The new gift wrapping is a silver-colored paper bag. Three sizes are available: S, M, and L. The size of the bag can be selected according to the size of the product to be placed in it. *2
There is a rubber bands inside to secure the products, so the bag itself acts as a protecting cushioning material. When delivered, the gift will be wrapped in an envelope shape with the handle folded inside, so you can use it as a carrier bag after removing the gift. "Gift Paper Bag" are made of craft paper called washable paper, which is lightweight but strong, making it difficult to lose its shape or break. It's also water resistant, so you can hand wash it when it gets dirty and use it repeatedly as a shopping bag or for short outings. The elastic bands inside can be used as a pockt for holding Eau de parfum, Lipstick, Pencil Cases , etc.

Conserving Limited Resources
The conventional box-type “Gift Box” uses disposable cushioning material to protect the product, which emits about 154 tons of CO2 per year when calculated based on the average annual sales volume. Since “Gift Paper Bag” does not use disposable cushioning material but protects the product with a rubber band, CO2 emissions from the use of paper resources can be reduced to approximately 81 tons per year when calculated based on the same sales volume. The difference is about 73 tons, which is a nearly 50% reduction in CO2 emissions from the life cycle of resources.
Basis for Calculating CO2 Emissions
emissions are calculated independently by our company based on “IDEA ver. 3.1 (a database that visualizes the environmental impact of raw materials, products, and services in business operations in Japan, taking the life cycle/value chain into consideration)” provided by the IDEA Laboratory, Safety Science Research Division, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST). The environmental impact of disposable cushioning materials (colored paper) is calculated based on IDEA ver 3.1.

Since 2023 we are working on actions aimed at achieving zero waste by minimizing the excessive amount of materials used for wrapping. SHIRO has continued to create "things that we want to use every day".
